If you have never visited the White Mountains National Forest in the winter. You need to add it to your bucket list! A simple morning stroll has got me thinking what a special place this really is. Not only do we have the magnificent Mahoosuc Range in our back yard, the White Mountains National Forest is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Located just west of Bethel and Sunday River, the White Mountain National Forest is centered in New Hampshire but has a large portion just across the boarder in Western Maine. The National Forest is mostly know for MT Washington and the other Presidential Peaks, as well as a beautiful section of the Appalachian Trail. You don’t have to go to far from Bethel to find plenty of amazing hikes, drives, and other backcountry adventures all throughout.
Drive down the kancamagus Highway and stop for a swim and slide down one of the many natural rock slides. Take the Cog Railroad to the top of MT Washington and take in the most spectacular views in the East. Check out one the many amazing geological features such as the Flume Gorge. Once you have gotten your nature fix, head to one of the unique amusement parks like Santas Village or Story Land, the kiddos will have blast!
Just one more reason to live and/or play in the great state of Maine!
